Dr. Ted Loiben (pronounced “LoyBin”) grew up in Lincolnwood and is a graduate of Niles West High School. He knew at a young age that he wanted to be a dentist like his father. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Tulane University in New Orleans and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago.
Dr. Loiben also completed a one -year general practice residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center in Chicago, which included extensive surgical and anesthesia training. He worked briefly as a general dentist, where he found that he especially enjoyed working with younger patients and creatively utilizing his personality as well as his dental skills to put children at ease.
While working in a well established pediatric dental practice, Dr. Loiben decided to pursue this specialty. He then went back to school at the University of Nebraska ‘s highly regarded two-year residency program to earn a certificate of specialty in pediatric dentistry. This training included all phases of a child’s psychological development and extensive hands on experience in treating even the most apprehensive of children requiring routine check-ups through complicated procedures.
In addition, Dr. Loiben has achieved the status of Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. This required comprehensive testing and peer review over the course of several years and is a distinction held by a minority of pediatric dentists nationally.
The ABPD is the only American Dental Association recognized certifying board for the specialty of pediatric dentistry. Pediatric dentists that are certified by the ABPD have met the standard of excellence set forth in providing high quality oral healthcare for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special healthcare needs.
Certification also reflects the dentist’s commitment to lifelong learning and continuing education. ABPD-certified dentists have a desire to practice pediatric dentistry at the highest level and are dedicated to constantly re-evaluating their practice in light of the most recent scientific evidence.
Achieving Board certification required multiple written examinations. In addition, board certified pediatric dental examiners conducted in-office observation of complicated cases on actual patients being treated by Dr. Loiben. Only a small percentage of pediatric dentists in the United States have earned the status of Board Certification. Dr. Loiben is considered an expert in his field.
From the day we opened our first office, it was our vision to create a friendly, inviting and professional environment for our young patients and their parents. We were new parents ourselves, and we looked forward to creating long term relationships with each family that walked through our door and entrusted us with the care of their children.
As word spread and our practice grew, we thoughtfully designed a larger office and incorporated all the details that our families have come to enjoy.
We are fortunate to have brought together an entire team of dedicated staff who have shared in our vision and stayed with us over the years to help create the feeling of family in our practice. While technology is important, we strive to maintain the personal touches and attention that make our families feel comfortable.
